Why America doesn't give a damn about mass shootings

Interesting read from CNN on why mass shootings seemingly have no effect on the public consciousness in the United States.

  • The number of gun deaths per day is over 90. Glad you arent killing people with your assault rifles but the fact is that since the ban was lifted the number and size of mass shootings have skyrocketed

  • The liberals and in turn the liberal controlled media is doing everything they can to promote and sensationalize these shootings. But the truth is, and FACTS clearly point it out, cell phones, specifically DRIVERS ON CELL PHONES, are killing WAY MORE people than guns are!! We are up to approx 12 people/day killed by cell phone drivers, the problem is, they're generally not killing themselves. The mortality rate for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists has skyrocketed in the past several years with the growing popularity of smart phones!
And by the way, the original assault weapons ban was a joke. I've got six of 'em, and as the old saying goes, "Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my "assault" guns.

  • Yesterday with the California shooting the talking heads said it could have been worse. In NYC attack the talking heads said it could have been worse. The same was said about several of the many previous shootings. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE, TELL THAT TO THE DEAD VICTIMS OR SEVERALLY INJURED. I think the media saying that is insensitive and not appropriate.

Getting the money out of politics is the solution to most of the stupid problems that affect USA.
It seems like the only solution to me.
Our elected politicians don't implement the wishes of the people, they serve their corporate donors.

  • I would basically agree Marc. If the massacre of classrooms of first and second graders couldnt budge the GOP, nothing can. We are really reaping what we have sown by refusing to renew the assault weapons ban. The massacres keep getting worse and worse. Have we become so jaded as a nation that we just accept wholesale slaughter as a way of life?

  • Sad but true:

“In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate,” Dan Hodges, a British journalist, wrote in a post on Twitter two years ago, referring to the 2012 attack that killed 20 young students at an elementary school in Connecticut. “Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”
