The BLUEXIT

The concept of the BLUEXIT as written by Kevin Baker in the March 9, 2017 edition of The New Republic https://newrepublic.com/article/140948/bluexit-bl … ed-america has been gaining traction. Is it natural that all things have a beginning, middle, and end also include governments? The great experiment worked for over two centuries, but has become like an ox cart on a super highway. It is interesting historically, however, it is really just a major accident waiting to happen. Personally, I look at it as the old analogy of a sinking ship but with no sense of duty to women and children first. 'It’s every man for himself' which is most logical if not quite thought of as genteel and civilized.

If the adage ‘One who can’t save himself has no way to save another,’ is true, then should not Federal taxes be given to one’s own state with only the cost of military spending given to the republic like a national insurance policy? The Republican President and Republican Congress keep pushing for ‘state’s rights.’ Perhaps we should simply give it to them with the logical ending allowed to be accomplished.

We @DD are here from all 50 states and many countries around the world. The US is not unique in the rumblings of formally considering seeking amicable divorces. What are your perspectives on this issue?

  • Does 'amicable divorces' include war? Looking from olde europe, this whole 'America First'-ideology is very scary. Because it includes 'whites first' and 'christians first' and this is fuel for the right wing parties over here, France, The Netherlands, Austria, Hungaria, ... as well as Erdogans (Turkey) 'we-are-the-good-islamists' nonsense while profiling a new non laicistic turkish state ... The american intern confrontation is anticipating a much wider division of cultures. And this is a very scary evolution. Deepening differences instead of building bridges has always ended in war.
So, my answer is that there is no amicable divorce coming, but more confrontation. I hope I'm proved wrong.

  • I'm not ready to give up yet, Machine, but like you, I am very discouraged by the split that has developed in this country. It's not just a difference of political opinion; that's gone on since before the formation of the Republic. But Americans today don't have the same worldview or even see things the same way at all. There is an enormous gulf that, frankly, isn't going to change for a long time; certainly not in my lifetime. One example: Half the country would see a video of a cop beating a black man and say it's abuse of authority; the other half sees the same video and says it's a cop doing his job. One half thinks America should help its underprivileged citizens; the other half sees that the wealthy have earned their money and have no obligation to share it with anyone else.

This gulf has been growing since the 1980s at least, and has been exacerbated greatly by politics and more recently by right-wing talk radio/tv, the internet and social media. I'll admit I initially had some hope for President Trump when he declared that his goal was to be the president of all Americans. Except, since he has taken office, he has done nothing but try to placate his right-wing base. He even agreed to changes in the GOP healthcare bill that would strip it of its most popular provisions -- no ban on pre-existing conditions; children under 26 being carried on parents' policies, and no lifetime cap on insurance coverage. WTF? I don't think America has been this divided since the Civil War.
