Cookies - ummmm

Not those kind! I'm referring to the cookies that websites put on your computer to track what you are doing.
After cleaning up my computer one day, running ad/spyware removal and virus scan, I became very aware of what was on my computer. LOTS of cookies there and I mean LOTS.
Now I have my settings so I am prompted each time a website wants to place a cookie on my computer. For the most part I now completely block all cookies.
Ever wonder how some websites make money? Well they allow other companies cookies to be placed on your computer at a fee of course. Yahoo is the biggest offender for me, seems they always have a new cookie they want to put on my machine.
While some cookies are good, they allow you to automatically log in (saves your ID and password), some are just after personal information.
Bottom line - be aware of what is being placed on your computer. Run spyware/adware removal software and keep your virus protection up todate.
Be safe has more meaning than bedroom activities.

  • Not all cookies are bad, some are as you said trackers that send information to other companies that know of your actions and some others take your information and commit theft. But there are certain ones that are there for your convenience and others that help you to load web pages faster. It is a good idea to delete anything you don't trust, but there are options on your web browser that makes it so that it automatically deletes any from sites you don't trust, and keep any cookie that you do know of and what it does. Like the cookies from yahoo, they might be the ones from your personal settings, like if you do happen to have myyahoo where you can personalize the way that site looks when you log on that may be the main reason why you have so many cookies form them.
