"Fresh Meat" and "Strange Dick"

July 4 2017

(I have no grand takeaway point in all this, I am just musing over morning coffee here... )

Fresh Meat - or "Strange Dick," as a former boyfriend of mine called it... you get to be it for only a short time.

You walk into a new bar in a new town, and many eyes turn to check you out. You are Fresh Meat to them, and they are Fresh Meat to you.

We might hope that Fresh Meat morphs into Strange Dick... maybe someone in the new place approaches you, or you them, but by the end of the night, one way or the other, your freshness, your novelty, their collective freshness, their novelty, have all worn off. Next time you see each other, the thought will be in the back of the mind, "I've seen him before..."

It's the same thing on these on line sites, just substitute your city, your state, your province for the bar. Now add, if there wasn't enough of a spark to get a conversation started when the novelty factor was hard at work, there probably won't be any on subsequent glimpses either... you hope that someone who is from the area but wasn't there before, in other words, still new to you, is there on your next visit, in other words, setting up for a repeat of the Fresh Meat thing but with less of a crowd...

And that is another of the reasons we look further and further outside our "convenient distance" zone. We have grown bored of "the usual suspects." (They have with us, too, lol...)

  • I go on a 5-7000 mile road trip every Summer. I am amazed at how my phone lights up like a Christmas tree when I cross a state line. The gay apps notifying everyone along my route, "Fresh meat, fresh meat here". Even old meat like mine attracts attention especially in rural areas and states with 1 gay bar.

This year I'm off to see Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. I've been to the last one before but only Vancouver and Victoria. Then I head down to Washington and Oregon. But I'm sure my phone will light up in Nebraska and the Dakotas. Not sure what apps they use in Canada but I'm sure I will find out.

    Have a great Summer everyone.
